Good Faith Estimate
Under the No Surprises Act, patients who do not have health insurance or who choose not to use insurance to pay for care generally have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate of expected charges before receiving non-emergency healthcare services.
A Good Faith Estimate outlines the expected cost of the care or services you are planning to receive. If you schedule care at least three business days in advance, or if you request an estimate, your healthcare provider generally must provide one in writing.
If the amount you are billed by a provider is $400 or more above that provider’s Good Faith Estimate, you may be eligible to dispute the bill through the federal patient-provider dispute resolution process.
Please keep a copy of your Good Faith Estimate so you can compare it with any bills you receive.
For more information about your rights under the No Surprises Act, visit the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services or call the No Surprises Help Desk at 1-800-985-3059.
